A PRACTICAL CHECK FOR BUSINESS OWNERS

Does your contact form
actually reach you?

A working-looking form can still leave an enquiry missing from your inbox. Here’s how to test your own website and collect useful evidence before paying for a repair.

A “message sent” screen is one step in the journey. The email still has to reach the right mailbox. For example, Contact Form 7 explains that its success response can appear even when a later mail filter prevents receipt. Read the plugin’s explanation.

1. Send one clearly marked test

Open the public contact page on a website you own or manage. Use an email address you control and a harmless message such as “Site owner test — Friday, 10:30.” Note the page address and time. Avoid real customer details, confidential information and attachments.

Complete the form normally, including required fields, consent and any CAPTCHA. Submit once and record the exact response. Do not disable protection or repeatedly submit while you are diagnosing the problem.

2. Check the business inbox, not just your confirmation

Look in the mailbox that should receive customer enquiries. Search for your test marker and check spam, junk and any shared-mailbox folders. Allow for your usual delivery time. If someone else manages that inbox, ask them to check the same test.

An automatic reply to the address you entered is different from the notification your business needs to receive. Check each separately. Save the time and outcome so your website provider can follow the same message through its delivery records.

3. Describe the failure before choosing a fix

The form won’t submit: record which field or response blocks it. Validation, consent, scripts or spam checks may be involved; this does not establish an email-server problem.

The form reports an error: keep the exact wording. Contact Form 7 can use the same error wording for spam rejection and a sending failure, so the text alone does not identify the cause. See its error-message guidance.

The form says it sent, but nothing arrives: confirm the intended recipient and ask the website or email provider to trace the marked test. A successful screen is not proof of inbox delivery.

4. If you use WordPress and Contact Form 7

An authorized administrator can review the form’s Mail tab. The To field identifies the recipient; From identifies the sender. They serve different purposes. Contact Form 7 recommends a From address on the website’s own domain and explains how Reply-To can direct a reply elsewhere. Mail-field reference · Sender and authentication guidance.

A same-domain sender is not a complete delivery fix. The mailbox, sending provider, email authentication, spam filtering or another plugin may still need attention. Ask your provider before changing SMTP or DNS settings; replacing them without understanding the existing setup can affect other business email.

5. Make receipt part of the repair check

After an agreed change, repeat a marked test through the real public form and confirm that its business notification arrives. Also check the expected on-screen response. If you need an automatic customer reply, verify that separately.

Keep a short record: page tested, time, change made, destination checked and result. This proves what happened in that test. It does not guarantee every future email; repeat the check after relevant website or email changes.

What SiteKindly can help with

Our free public website check inspects visible pages. It does not submit contact forms or prove that emails reach your inbox.

For a compatible Contact Form 7 site, we can agree on one exact main-sender correction. We check compatibility before payment, show the setting for approval, then ask you to submit your real form and confirm a code from its main notification email. Delivery remains pending until that receipt and the saved settings are verified.

The $49.99 first repair covers up to three agreed supported changes on one compatible website, up to 25 public pages. This form flow requires connector 0.4.0 and one supported fixed main recipient. SMTP, DNS, other form plugins and broader delivery problems need separate review. Check the support limits.

To ask about a form repair, send the public form-page address, your website platform and what happened in your test. Keep passwords, inbox access and customer messages out of the request.
